Mainz 05’s brilliant response to fan who complained of “too many black players” in the team

first_img Source: Mainz have published an exchange with a fan who cancelled his membership because of the presence of black players in the team. While protests against racism and police brutality have swept the United States and various countries across the world in response to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, several Bundesliga players have expressed solidarity with demonstrators on the field. As tensions remain high, Mainz received a message from a supporter complaining about the multi-racial make-up of the squad and arguing German players are being denied a chance.“For several months now I have been unable to identify myself with this club (professional football)! I’ve since gotten the impression that I’m at the Africa Cup, instead of in the German Bundesliga. I know what’s coming, but no – I’m not racist in any way. I resent that. But, too much is enough,” Mainz quoted the fan as saying.“But when the starting line-up for the past weeks has featured nine (!!!) Black players and German talents are being given fewer and fewer chances of their own, then this is no longer the club that has been near and dear to my heart over all these years.”However, Mainz replied to inform the now former member that they are happy to cut ties with a racist and stated their conduct goes against the club’s mission statement. The response read: “While we usually regret to hear of anyone wanting to cancel their membership and fight passionately for each of our members, in this instance we cannot begin to express any regret.“Racism is born when racist thoughts are spread, not only when someone calls themselves a racist – something which rarely happens.“And yes, you are right: you cannot identify yourself with our club. For us, skin colour or any other characteristics simply do not play a role. All that matters to us, is that someone is human and that they share in our values.“Those are the kinds of people we welcome in our community. In light of this, we welcome your cancellation as the reasons you’ve given clearly prove that you do not share those values that our club is based on.“Our position is clearly defined in our statutes and in our mission statement, which was developed in partnership with our fans and members.”last_img read more

What marked the Year of 2016 for Amel Tuka?

first_imgThe best BH athlete Amel Tuka did not achieve results in 2016 similar to those in 2015, and he said that he will remember the previous year after doping controls. In December, for the 12th time in 2016, the Anti-Doping Agency knocked on the doors of our BH athletes asking him for samples of urine and blood. Although it is a little unusual, Tuka says that he understands their frequent visits, but it is annoying when they come early in the morning.“It’s all part of the sport and we should let those people to do their job. I just wish if other athletes would have the same treatment as me, because I fully support their work.”Although he worked hard in the previous year and had a great motive from 2015, his form was not at the highest level.“I ran the best time of last season in Brussels in the race on 800 meters with time 1: 44.54 and I secured 18th place on the world list of the best times of the year and the fifth best time in Europe this year.”After all these results and the necessary analysis, Amel Tuka entered the new season with much higher goals and desire to repeat the results from 2015.“I think that the coach knows my body now a lot better, which is why I am optimistic and I’m looking forward to be on the track again. Now I’m getting ready for the winter part of the season, where I expect the races in the hall. I will be appearing on the Championship of the Balkans in the hall and of course the European Championship in Belgrade, which will be held from the 3rd to 5th of March. I’ll try to run the best possible result and to run in the final of the European Championships, because that would be a great success for me. I’m not a fan of running indoors, but we will try,” concluded Tuka.In the summer part of the season, our athlete and his coach will be devoted to the World Championships in London and races of the Diamond League. This year, his wish is to be healthy and to achieve better results, but above all to become a better man.(Source: E. M./ read more
