ELLSWORTH — There are still some big games left to be played for the Ellsworth girls’ basketball team, but the Eagles are already assured of a spot in the Class B North playoffs come February.Ellsworth clinched a berth in the upcoming state tournament Thursday with a 42-35 home win against John Bapst. Depending on the team’s results over the final four games and outcomes elsewhere in Class B North, the Eagles could finish anywhere between second place and 11th.Sophomore Kylie Robidoux led Ellsworth in scoring against John Bapst (4-8) with 10 points. The Eagles’ other scorers were Trinity Montigny with nine points, Kayla Duhaime with eight, Samantha Carter with seven, Sara Shea with five, Autumn Paul with two and Sierra Andrews with one.The Eagles’ next game will be against George Stevens Academy (3-9) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Blue Hill. Ellsworth will play its final road games of the year when it takes on Presque Isle and Caribou at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, respectively.This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textMDI, DI-S girls clinch spotsHancock County will have plenty of representation in this year’s girls’ tournament as Mount Desert Island and Deer Isle-Stonington have also sealed spots in the upcoming playoffs.MDI, which fell to 9-2 Thursday with a 47-33 road loss against Hermon (10-0), had Monday’s scheduled game against Old Town moved to Wednesday following the snowstorm. Deer Isle-Stonington (11-0) kept hold of first place in Class D North on Saturday with an 81-40 road win over Machias.
