Women’s Basketball Announces 2016-17 Non-Conference Schedule

first_imgDES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women’s basketball team will play a challenging 11-game non-conference schedule that features a three-game road trip to start the 2016-17 season. Dec. 21 Auburn New Orleans, La. Dec. 22 Eastern Washington or Tulane New Orleans, La.­ Drake opens the season at North Dakota on Nov. 11, marking the first time the Bulldogs have started a season on the road since the 2011-12 season. Prior to the regular season, Drake is scheduled to host exhibition games at the Knapp Center against Winona State and MidAmerica Nazarene on Nov. 1 and Nov. 5, respectively. The road swing continues for Drake with games at Creighton on Nov. 17 and at Iowa State on Nov. 20. Creighton participated in the 2016 WNIT. The fourth annual “Pack The Knapp” game will be held on Dec. 8 when Clarke University visits the Knapp Center. Drake closes the home portion of its non-conference schedule against Iowa on Dec. 18. Iowa qualified for the 2016 WNIT. Missouri Valley Conference action will start following a holiday break after the Tulane Classic with the Bulldogs set to take on the MVC’s 18-game, round-robin schedule. Drake concludes the non-conference slate with two games at the Tulane Classic in New Orleans, La. The Bulldogs start the tournament on Dec. 21 against Auburn who advanced to the second round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Drake will then play either host Tulane or Eastern Washington on Dec. 22. Tulane advanced to the third round of last season’s WNIT. The Bulldogs will potentially play seven teams that qualified for postseason play last season, including two that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
