Police arrest 31 Australia bound people
The asylum seekers had paid nearly 400,000 each for the illegal journey to the human smugglers. Among those in the bus were women and children including a new born baby. The raid was carried out by the police intelligence unit. The bus was to take them to the location where a boat had been prepared to transport the asylum seekers to Australia by sea. The police arrested 31 Australia bound asylum seekers and four human smugglers in Vavuniya last night.Our reporter in the area said that the would-be asylum seekers were in a bus which was about to take them to a drop off point when they were arrested.
