Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said Jammu and Kashmir’s integration with India was completed with the scrapping of Article 370. He said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Parliament abrogated Article 370 to make Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India. Shah said both elected representatives and civil servants get opportunity to serve the nation but while elected representative get five years, the civil servants get this opportunity for 30 years. He advised the IPS officers to work fearlessly within the purview of the Constitution. “There may be occasions when you get orders which don’t come under the purview of the Constitution and you may be in confusion over interpretation of the Constitution. You should understand the spirit of the Constitution and implement it.” He asked IPS officers to follow the ‘mantra’ of SMART policing which stands for sensitive, moral, alert, responsible and techno-savvy. I strongly deny all the allegations. During my stint as the prime minister, I never misused the authority in any means, didn’t exert unjust influence of my post.“[During the tenure] 6 Moinul Road [Dhaka cantonment] is my familial residence. cpdThe Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) on Tuesday urged the government to publish the “actual data” based on which the GDP has been assessed.CPD distinguished fellow Debapriya Bhattacharya, however, appreciated the government for the steady GDP rise and expressed concern about other aspects of national development. He was addressing a press conference arranged at CIRDAP Auditorium in the city marking the launching of a report as part of Independent Review of Bangladesh Development research programme on the acts and assessment of electoral pledges of the government within the first 100 days of its rule.”GDP is an important factor but not self-sufficient. All global development plans focus on human development. Even the SDGs have emphasised overall development of the stakeholders,” Debapriya said.He said there was little private investment in the development efforts taken place during the 100 days. “All the variables connected to GDP don’t reflect the rapid GDP growth,” he told the press conference.Debapriya noted that statistics showed an increase in labour productivity but surveys revealed that the working class’ income has not risen as discrimination is on the rise.Data and statistics provided for the research are less reliable than before, he said. “We wish to see the information and data based on which the GDP growth rate has been determined,” the CPD fellow said.CPD distinguished fellow professor Mustafizur Rahman highlighted the importance of falling discrimination, saying that it is the only way to maintain sustainable GDP growth. He also urged the government for larger budget allocation for education sector to develop skilled manpower.Meanwhile, senior CPD research fellow Towfiqul Islam Khan discussed several aspects of the current government’s initiatives and challenges to face based on the report.CPD executive director Fahmida Khatun mentioned that the banking sector has started deviating from IMF policy since 2012.She said CPD has planned to set up a banking commission involving citizens.CPD research director Khondaker Golam Moazzem mentioned that there are several complaints against reports on the newly-introduced companies in the capital market. He also said the Anti-Corruption Commission is not taking adequate measures to tackle irregularities in the stock market.CPD also made some recommendations for resolving the issues.
Advertisement It’s time for Colin’s Blazin’ 5 for NFL Week 15. Colin broke even last week, posting a 2-2-1 record in Week 14. He’s still a more than respectable 39-29-2 on the year, and he’s ready to roll this week.Colin doesn’t care if you’ve been naughty or nice, he just wants to stuff your stocking until it’s overflowing with cash. Here are his Blazin’ 5 plays for NFL Week 15.Packers (-6.5) at Bears – 6.5 is a big number, but Colin is rolling with red-hot Green Bay, on the road against struggling Chicago. Aaron Rodgers has eaten the division rival Bears for lunch throughout his career. He’s 13-4, with 38 touchdowns, only 9 picks, a 68% completion percentage, and a quarterback rating of 106.8 in his career against Chicago. 11 of his 13 wins have come by 7+ points. Over his last 4 games overall, Rodgers has completed 70% of his passes, with 10 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and a passer rating of 121.1. Also, the Green Bay defense is finally healthy and playing better. They’ve allowed 12 points per game with 9 sacks and 8 takeaways in their last 3 games. The Packers have won their last 5 games in Chicago, and they’ll win this one, too. Take Green Bay and lay the 6.5. 31-20, Pack.2. Raiders (-3) at Chargers – Colin likes the Raiders, even giving 3 on the road against the Chargers. Oakland has had 10 days off since their Thursday night loss in Kansas City, which snapped their 6-game winning streak. The Raiders have averaged 11.5 points per game in their 2 games against the Chiefs this year, but 30.5 against the rest of the league, and are 6-1 on the road.Philip Rivers has thrown an NFL-high 17 interceptions this year, and should face significant pressure from Khalil Mack and the Raider pass rush. Mack has a sack in his last 8 games (10 total over that span), and he’s forced a fumble in 5 of his last 6 games. Oakland has won their last 3 against San Diego, and they’ll win this one, too. Take Oakland and swallow the field goal. 34-26, Raiders.3. Titans (+5.5) at Chiefs – Colin has been a big fan of Andy Reid and the Chiefs this year, but he’s taking the Titans getting 5.5, on the road in KC. The Titans are 7-6, after winning 2 straight, and 3 of their last 4.Tennessee leads the NFL in red-zone TD efficiency (71.4%), are the best team in the AFC in 3rd-down conversion percentage (46.0%), and are 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards per game (144.5). The Chiefs win a close one, but Tennessee covers the 5.5. 27-26, KC.4. Lions (+4.5) at Giants – Colin is all over the Lions as a 4.5 point road dog, heading into MetLife to face the G-men. The Giants just beat the Cowboys, but Eli Manning is completing just 59.2% of his passes over his last 4 games, and Odell Beckham is New York’s only reliable offensive weapon.Matt Stafford is a legitimate MVP candidate, and has thrown 15 touchdowns against only 3 interceptions in his last 9 games. The Lions have won 8 of 9, and they’ll pull the outright upset here. 26-24, Lions.5. Bucs (+7) at Cowboys – Colin likes Tampa getting 7 against the Cowboys in Big D. The Bucs defense is for real. During their current 5-game winning streak, they’ve forced 14 turnovers and have 13 sacks, while allowing only 12.8 points per game. They’re also tied for the NFL lead in takeaways (25). Defense travels, and Tampa is 5-1 on the road this year.Dak Prescott’s recent struggles have been well documented, including a career worst 45.9% completion percentage last week against the Giants. Dallas gets the win, but Tampa covers the 7. 26-23, Cowboys.Make sure you download, listen and subscribe to Colin’s Blazin’ 5 Prediction Podcast with RJ Bell every Saturday morning through the end of the football season. But after the public uproar, Netanyahu told Yaalon it was “unacceptable” and the two decided to freeze the plan, an official in the prime minister’s office said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was discussing internal communications. The official would not say when Netanyahu became aware of the plan or explain why he opposed it.Thousands of Palestinians are permitted to enter Israel for work each day from the West Bank, usually to work in construction and other menial jobs. They typically take Palestinian shuttle buses or private transportation to checkpoints before dawn, and cross into Israel after a security check. But when they return home, they don’t need to go through the checkpoints and many take Israeli settler buses from Israel straight to the West Bank to save time. The proposed change would have forced them to return home through the same checkpoint they entered and barred them from traveling back on buses alongside Israelis.“We work on their houses. How do they want to prevent us from using buses?” said Mohammed Shatara, a Palestinian worker from the West Bank city of Nablus, as he crossed through the Eyal checkpoint. “We are human like them and this decision is racist.” JERUSALEM (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday canceled a plan that would have banned Palestinian laborers from riding on the same buses with Jewish settlers in the West Bank, just hours after it was announced — an embarrassing about-face that reflected the tensions enveloping Israel’s new government. The inauspicious start for Netanyahu’s hard-line government illustrated the difficulties that loom as it tries to advance a pro-settler agenda in the face of rising global outrage and domestic criticism. The reversal came as the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, was in town. The EU has taken a tough stance against settlements built on lands claimed by the Palestinians. As the bus plan was unveiled, Israeli critics across the political spectrum derided it as racist, with one opposition politician comparing it to “apartheid.” Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, a member of Netanyahu’s Likud Party, called the plan “unthinkable” and said there had been “great damage” to Israel.Netanyahu’s new coalition, which was sworn into office last week, is dominated by settler sympathizers, and the busing plan, launched late Tuesday on a trial basis, had sought to separate settlers and Palestinians from traveling together through the West Bank. The plan’s mastermind, Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, said it was connected solely to security. The settlers had complained of safety concerns and alleged harassment of female riders by Arab passengers.“Every normal country is allowed, and especially in our security situation, to inspect those who enter and exit,” Yaalon said, denying any racist intentions. “That is what this is about and nothing else.” The vital role family plays in society The Israeli premier angered the United States and other key allies during the election campaign in March by saying he would not allow the establishment of a Palestinian state on his watch. Although he later tried to backtrack, the U.S. has reacted with skepticism. With just a one-seat majority in the parliament, Netanyahu finds himself dependent on the pro-settler Jewish Home party as well as hard-liners inside Likud. These hard-liners support further settlement construction, and their opposition to peacemaking with the Palestinians has set the stage for likely clashes with Israel’s Western allies. At a joint appearance, neither Netanyahu nor Mogherini mentioned the failed bus plan. Mogherini stressed the close ties between Israel and Europe and assured Netanyahu that Europe is committed to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.Netanyahu used the opportunity to deflect some of the criticism of his new hawkish government.“I don’t support a one state solution – I don’t believe that’s a solution at all. I support the vision of two states for two peoples – a demilitarized Palestinian state that recognizes the Jewish state,” he said. Four benefits of having a wireless security system New Valley school lets students pick career-path academies 5 people who need to visit the Ultrastar Multi-tainment Center Ex-FBI agent details raid on Phoenix body donation facility Netanyahu’s quick action reflected Israeli concerns about the country’s image, which already is under pressure after years of stalled peace efforts and continued settlement construction.Israeli opposition leader Isaac Herzog called the bus plan “a stain on the face of the country and its citizens.” Writing on his Facebook page, he said, “It adds unnecessary oil to the bonfire of hate against Israel in the world.”“This is how apartheid looks,” said Zehava Galon, leader of the dovish Meretz party.Rivlin, whose ceremonial post is meant to serve as a moral compass for the country, commended Netanyahu for scrapping the plan. “It is important we remember that our sovereignty obligates us to prove our ability to live side by side,” Rivlin said.Israel captured the West Bank from Jordan in the 1967 Mideast war, and Palestinians claim the territory as part of a future state. Some 350,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bank, alongside more than 2 million Palestinians. The international community considers the settlements illegal or illegitimate.Wednesday’s uproar gave a glimpse of what could lie ahead for Netanyahu and his new government. Top Stories Comments Share Mogherini restated Europe’s support for the establishment of a Palestinian state before entering a private meeting with Netanyahu. Some EU countries are pushing for settlement products to be labeled if they are sold in Europe.Alon Ben David, an Israel TV commentator on defense affairs, criticized the country’s leaders for being out of touch with international opinion.“You really don’t need binoculars today to see the political tsunami that is making its way to Israel’s shores from Europe,” he told Channel 10 TV.Israeli civil rights groups lauded Netanyahu’s reversal but criticized the government for even considering the plan.Sarit Michaeli, spokeswoman for B’Tselem, a human rights group, said the proposal drew attention to broader policies of separation and discrimination in the West Bank.Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank are subject to two sets of laws, different rules for land development and in some cases, even travel on separate roads, she said. Israeli settlers are permitted to vote in Israeli elections, while Palestinians are not.“Even though this specific issue was put on hold, actually separation, segregation and discrimination have been around for a long time,” she said. Add a side of triple cooked chips for £4.50, and you have a meal with some of the best beef in town, plus change from £15. Hoppers vs. GymkhanaThe dark oak wood panelling and cut glass lamps of highly acclaimed Gymkhana in London’s prestigious Mayfair, is a failsafe for a terrific Indian meal. With a coveted Michelin star, the price point reflects the pedigree of kitchen; meat mains range from £10 to £38, and a 7-course tasting menu is £70.But the same talented restaurateurs behind Gymkhana and sister restaurant Trishna (the Sethi family), have recently brought Hoppers to Soho. LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Celine Dion says she is “truly sorry” for cancelling another Las Vegas concert as she continues to battle throat inflammation. The Quebec singer posted on Facebook that after struggling to get through her show on Friday, her doctors told her she “absolutely” could not perform as scheduled the following night. It’s the third concert Dion cancelled this month due to illness. She missed both the previous Saturday show and Tuesday’s performance at the Colosseum because she was “recovering from inflammation of the throat.”Last week, the singer also held a press conference to announce she’s embarking on a tour of Asia this summer. The run of shows comes after Dion cancelled her 2014 tour in the region to care for her husband Rene Angelil, who died two years ago of cancer. On Saturday, she apologized to fans for the recent string of cancellations.“Cancelling a show is the hardest thing I have to do, especially when I know that so many people have travelled far to see me in Las Vegas,” she wrote.“This decision is not made lightly. When I’m not well, I always try to push through and I do everything I can to do my show. I really struggled to finish (Friday) night’s show and it took everything out of me.”Follow @dfriend on Twitter.
