(Still have fond memories of playing in India: Shahid Afridi ahead of India-Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy final)Kohli further tipped his Indian teammates to stay relaxed.”The more relaxed you stay in these kinds of situations, it is a good thing because it helps you take better decisions,” Kohli added. (ICC Champions Trophy: Have no option but to attack Indian top order, says Mickey Arthur)Cricket’s biggest rivalry has become a bit of a dud. India have won all of their matchups in global tournaments for the last five years, including two weeks ago on the Trophy’s opening weekend. Ozil announced the end of his Germany career shortly after returning from the World Cup in Russia. He had been widely criticised for posing alongside Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in a photograph in May which also featured Germany team mate Ilkay Gundogan.advertisementOzil, a member of the 2014 World Cup-winning team, said he had faced “racism and disrespect” because of his Turkish roots.”I believe that Germany needs Ozil. I hope that (manager) Joachim Loew can convince him that he will come back,” Wenger said.”Ozil is a super football player, was not the worst in the World Cup. I did not love that he left the German national team.”I love it when the players are as good as possible. Campaigners say case of Bahraini footballer Hakeem al-Araibi now an ‘emergency’Campaigners say case of Bahraini footballer Hakeem al-Araibi now an ‘emergency’

first_imgActivists campaigning for the release of the Bahraini refugee footballer Hakeem al-Araibi, who has been detained in Thailand since November after an Interpol red notice was wrongly issued against him, say his plight has become an emergency. The warnings came from Brendan Schwab of the World Players Association and the former Australia captain Craig Foster after news that Bahrain has formally submitted an extradition request for Al-Araibi’s return. Read more Bahrain Share on Twitter Schwab and Foster were in Zurich on Monday to urge Fifa to do more to save Al-Araibi, who fled Bahrain after being beaten by police and was given refugee status by Australia, over fears he will be tortured or even killed if he is sent back.“The situation is very urgent because, even if Bahrain does not succeed in extraditing Hakeem, the consequences for him of spending months or even years in the prison while his case drags will be destroying for him,” Schwab told the Guardian. “We are clearly facing a human rights emergency which needs to be elevated to the highest levels in Bahrain and Thailand. We need to see progress – and fast – for Hakeem’s sake.”Foster, meanwhile, said he wanted the case “resolved before Friday” after meeting the Fifa secretary general, Fatma Samoura.Al-Araibi and his supporters believe the fact he was a critic of Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa, a member of Bahrain’s ruling family when he contested the Fifa presidential election in 2015, has led Sheikh Salman to seek revenge. In 2016 Al-Araibi was given a 10-year prison sentence in absentia after being convicted of vandalising a police station, even though he was playing in a televised match at the time the crime took place.“After meeting Fifa we believe it understands the gravity of the case,” Schwab said. “The urgent challenge now for football is to come up with a way to solve it.”On Monday Bahrain’s interior minister defended his government’s pursuit of al-Araibi, claiming concerns he will face torture and unjust imprisonment if he is returned are “false reports”. Thanks to the good folks at Mr. Beer, we can get everything we need in one handy kit, which comes complete with a two gallon keg; a spigot, washer and nut; a can of hopped malt extract (HME); yeast; eight 1-liter plastic bottles, bottle caps and labels; no-rinse cleaner and the handy Brewing With Mr. Beer instructional DVD. All you have to provide is three gallons of water, a one gallon container, a one quart pot, a metal or hard plastic spoon, a can opener, a measuring cup, a bowl or plate and white granulated sugar. Now let the beer-making fun begin!First we assembled the spigot. Next, we sanitized it, along with the spoon, can opener and measuring to kill all the gross bacteria and wild yeasts that could potentially produce that funky beer taste that we don’t want. Back to Beer Making 101. In case you didn’t know how beer is produced, it’s a process, called fermentation, of combining a starch source with yeast. Then the yeast devours the sugars in the starch, which produces alcohol and carbon dioxide. So basically we carefully followed all the steps in the directions and then we let the mixture sit. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, around two weeks later our homebrew was ready to be bottled! We sanitized the bottles and put a little sugar in each, along with the mixture. Then we waited again — this time around two-and-a-half weeks for the secondary brewing to take place. We let the beer sit for two more days, and invited some folks over to watch football, have some snacks and enjoy our homebrew. How awesome is that? We think we’re going to whip up a spicy batch for the holidays. Oh, and speaking of holidays, wouldn’t this make the perfect gift? The Brewmaster Select Kit, $99.95 at read more

first_imgFour stories in the news for Tuesday, Feb. 19———SNC-LAVALIN STORM AWAITS RETURNING MPSThe opposition parties are charging back into the House of Commons today, loaded with questions for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about what his office did to try to help the embattled Montreal engineering company SNC-Lavalin in its corruption case. Before MPs left for a week in their ridings, Jody Wilson-Raybould was veterans affairs minister and Gerald Butts was Trudeau’s principal secretary, his closest adviser. Now they’ve both quit and it’s still not clear what Butts or anyone else in the Prime Minister’s Office might have done to push Wilson-Raybould on SNC-Lavalin when she was attorney general and had a say over the charges the company faces.———WILSON-RAYBOULD SUPPORTED BY MANY RIDING RESIDENTSCommunity leaders in MP Jody Wilson-Raybould’s Vancouver Granville riding say they’re disappointed she’s no longer in cabinet, but they respect her decision to resign. Reverend Steven Epperson says many members of his Unitarian Church of Vancouver are more left-wing than the governing Liberals, but they deeply admire Wilson-Raybould. He says they think what’s happened is a tragedy and they hope she remains in politics and continues to represent the riding as an MP. Wilson-Raybould resigned from cabinet last week amid allegations the Prime Minister’s Office pressured her when she was attorney general to drop criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin.———PRO-PIPELINE PROTEST CONVOY NEARING OTTAWAA convoy of angry Albertans and other westerners rolls into Ottawa today for a mass protest against federal energy and environmental policies that has also become a magnet for extremist, anti-immigrant elements. A couple of hundred vehicles are expected on Parliament Hill as part of the United We Roll convoy, which began in Red Deer, Alta., on Thursday and made its way east over four days with stops for rallies along the way. The protesters want the Liberal government to scrap the carbon tax and two bills that overhaul environmental assessments of energy projects and ban oil tankers from the northern coast of British Columbia.———MAN SEEKS PAROLE IN MANSLAUGHTER OF WIFEA man who strangled his wife and concealed her body in the family home after enduring what he described as years of domestic abuse is scheduled for his first parole hearing today. Allan Shyback was convicted in 2017 of manslaughter and indignity to a body in the 2012 death of Lisa Mitchell in the Calgary home they shared with their children. His original seven-year prison term was appealed and last October the Alberta Court of Appeal added an additional three years to the sentence, saying that the judge made sentencing errors. UNP says Ali babas thieves attempting to grab powerUNP says Ali babas thieves attempting to grab power

Kariyawasam said that the corrupt politicians who are attempting to return to Parliament at the next Parliament elections are looking at escaping from facing action against corruption. The ruling United National Party (UNP) says “Ali baba’s thieves” who were in the Government before the January 8 Presidential elections, are attempting to return to power.UNP spokesman Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the the thieves are looking at contesting the next Parliament elections but are unlikely to be endorsed by the public. “We cut the tree which was involved in corruption but the roots have yet to be fully unearthed. It is those roots which are now attempting to return to power. It is like Ali baba and the 40 thieves. But there are more than 40 thieves,” he said. The UNP MP, meanwhile, insisted that the UNP is confident it can win the Parliament elections with majority support. He also rejected the idea that President Maithripala Sirisena won the last Presidential elections only because he had the support of the minorities. (Colombo Gazette) read more

Chander, a former mayor of Leamington Spa, had worked for more than 70 hours in the week leading up to the accident, which saw him drive “full throttle” for almost 82 metres. They were not asked to return verdicts of guilty because Chander was mentally unfit to take part in the hearing. They were instead invited to rule on whether he “did the acts” alleged.Stockport-based Midland Red (South), part of Stagecoach, pleaded guilty last year to offences contrary to the Health and Safety at Work Act by permitting Chander to continue driving despite warnings about his competence and fatigue.Chander could face a supervision order at a further hearing on November 26. Midland Red, which faces an unlimited fine, will be sentenced on the same date. An elderly bus driver who killed two people when he drove into a supermarket was suffering from dementia and had crashed four times in the previous three years, a court heard.Kailash Chander, who mistook the accelerator for the brake before the fatal crash in Coventry in October 2015, was ruled mentally unfit to stand trial due to post-traumatic stress disorder and frontal lobe dementia. The 80-year-old, who was 77 at the time of the crash, was excused from attending a “finding-of-facts” trial after psychiatrists said he would be unable to give evidence or instruct lawyers with regard to the crash.Primary school pupil Rowan Fitzgerald, who was sitting at the front of the upper deck, died of a head injury, while 76-year-old pedestrian Dora Hancox died from multiple injuries after being hit by the bus and a falling lamppost.A six-day trial at Birmingham Crown Court was told Chander had been warned about his “erratic” driving by bus company Midland Red after four crashes in the previous three years. read more
